History of the peach::

The peach originated over 3,000 years ago in China. The peach symbolizes longevity and good luck.

It is believed that Chinese traders brought peaches (“Maotao” or “Yietao”) to Russia and Persia. Around 300 B.C. the Greek philosopher Theophrastus designated this fruit “the peach” believing it came from Persia.

Interesting Facts:

Today the peach is grown in over 64 countries worldwide.Peaches are divided into two varieties; clingstones and freestones. Free Stone: refers to how the flesh of the peach separates from the pit.

There are currently over 700 varieties of peaches grown across the world with production exceeding 5.5 million metric tons annually.

Types of Canned Peaches:

Melting Flesh Peaches: have flesh that over time softens when canned. The peaches tend to have frayed edges resulting from slicing during the canning process. Melting peaches can be of the clingstone or freestone variety.

Non-Melting Peaches: maintain their firmness once canned. They have an orange flesh with no red coloration. All non-melting peaches are of the clingstone variety. The majority of commercially canned peaches are non-melting.
